Large printed stock certificate for 100 acres of land in Virginia and Kentucky. Composed of 15 printed coupons per side, ornately printed border, blindstamped with seals of the U.S. Consulate in Paris and the Compagnie de Colonisation Américaine, and signed by American consul in France and by "De Redern et Cie." in Paris at bottom. Slightly trimmed along bottom edge. 18 x 14 in. (457 x 355 mm). Rare uncut stock certificate for a land scheme in Virginia and Kentucky, offering 100 acres (part of a 1,849,000-acre property) at 1,300 francs per share. This is one of 12,000 shares constituting series B. Compagnie de Colonisation Américaine was founded by Jean Sigismond Ehrenreich, Comte de Redern (1761-1841), a Prussian diplomat, entrepreneur, eccentric, and friend of French utopian theorist Henri de Saint-Simon.
