Durch die Vermittlung des Conde de Linhares erhielt John Mawe, der englische Mineraloge und zeitweilige Verwalter der Königlichen Fazenda Santa Cruz, die bis dahin verweigerte Erlaubnis, die verschiedenen Minen und deren Ausbeutung zu besichtigen. … Aus dem Rio-de-la-Plata-Gebiet kommend, besuchte Mawe die Insel Santa Catarina, Sao Paulo und Rio de Janeiro, bevor er nach Minas Gerais aufbrach. Außerdem enthält der Bericht Nachrichten über Rio Grande do Sul, Matto Grosso und den Nordosten Brasiliens” (S.
