Title: An Account of the Proceedings at the Dinner Given by Mr. George Peabody to the Americans Connected with the Great Exhibition at the London Coffee House, Ludgate Hill on the 27th October 1851 Author: [Stevens, Henry] Place: London Publisher: William Pickering Date: 1851 Description: 114 pp. Introduction by Henry Stevens. 8¼x5½, original blind and gilt stamped blue cloth, gilt spine, all edges gilt. “The dinner reported on the following pages was given by Mr Peabody with the double purpose of manifesting his respect for the gentlemen who were his guests, and of fostering brotherly love, and cementing yet closer the reunion, between England and America,” -Introduction. The volume includes a list of 140 men invited to this private event; the total print run for the book probably did not exceed much more than that number. Lot Amendments Condition: Yellowed spine, frayed tips, few small spots of soiling; front hinge starting, ink inscription on front free endpaper; foxed; else very good. Item number: 208157
