AN ANTIQUE DIAMOND, SAPPHIRE AND ENAMEL STAGECOACH BROOCH The four pav-set diamond horses pulling a single, oval and old mine-cut sapphire coach with yellow enamel wheels, holding four pav-set diamond people, mounted in silver and gold, circa 1890 In the 1880's, James Buchanan Brady, better known as Diamond Jim, ordered an elaborate set of jewelry, known as the Transportation Set, that commemorated his 40 years in the railroad business. Along with this set, he ordered jewelry that he presented to his friends among which may have been this brooch depicting a coach and four horses. Before the invention of the automobile, coaching was a popular sport of the wealthy.
