AN APULIAN RED FIGURE BELL KRATER 4TH CENTURY B.C. Side A: a draped female figure sits on a rocky outcrop, wearing pendant necklace, earrings, and bracelets, her hair bound up in a kekryphalos, with top-knot emerging above, a radiate stephane above her forehead, holding a large dish with cakes in outstretched left hand, a tambourine in her right, she faces the standing figure of a youth, leaning on his staff, naked save for cloak wrapped around his left arm, fillet with trailing ribbons in his hair, he holds a dotted wreath in his outstretched right hand, a laurel branch between them, a large dotted fillet, flower and two buchrania in the field Side B: two draped youths, each carrying a long staff, standing between a stele, a writing tablet bound with horizontal stylus above Meander frieze with crossed and dotted squares below, a laurel wreath below the rim, palmettes with scrolling tendrils below each handle, details in added white and yellow 15 in. (38 cm.) high
