AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED HYDRIA CIRCA 4TH CENTURY B.C. With two standing draped females in added white within an Ionic naiskos, the figure on the right wearing chiton and himation, beaded necklace and bracelets, her hair bound in a sakkos, holding a bird by its wings in her right hand, the female on the left wearing sleeveless chiton, beaded necklace and bracelets, holding a garland in her right hand, an open box in her left, a large kalathos and alabastron between them, the naiskos surrounded by four offering-bearers, a seated draped female above left with dish and garland, a standing nude youth below left with bunches of grapes and phiale, a seated draped female above right with phiale and fan, a dancing nude youth below right with garland and branch; a band of meander and dotted squares below, a spray of laurel centered by a rosette on the neck, ovolo on the rim, an elaborate palmette complex framing the handles, details in added white and yellow 25 ¾ in. (65.5 cm.) high
