ATTRIBUTED TO THE PAINTER OF SÈVRES I, CIRCA 340-320 B.C.
AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED VOLUTE-KRATER ATTRIBUTED TO THE PAINTER OF SÈVRES I, CIRCA 340-320 B.C. The obverse with a warrior in added white within an Ionic naiskos, seated on a mantle, his pilos helmet tied around his neck, a phiale and a fillet in his raised right hand, the naiskos flanked by tall blossoms, a winged profile head of Nike on the neck, a band of rosettes and phialai and a thin band of zigzag above; the reverse with a large profile female head, jumping weights and a writing tablet with stylus in the field, a palmette and tendrils on the neck, a band of chevron above; wave encircling the vase below, vertical lines on the shoulders, wave below the rim, ovolo on the rim, palmette complexes below the handles, the volutes with molded female heads, white on the obverse, reserved on the reverse, the shoulders with duck heads framing the handles, details in added white and yellow 22 in. (55.9 cm.) high
