AN ATTIC BLACK FIGURE AMPHORA CIRCA 500 B.C. Side A: a combat scene with three warriors wearing crested helmets, one on horseback in confrontation with a warrior bearing a large circular shield with spear raised, the third figure fallen on the ground Side B: a quadriga Palmettes around the neck, rays above the base surmounted by a frieze of interlocking lotus buds, four palmettes with scrolling stems flanking the handles, graffito under foot, glaze flaked, repaired with some restoration 17½ in. (44.5 cm.) high
