Beschreibung:

An attractive Chinese Export tea set, late yongzheng or early qianlong, circa 1735, comprising: a teapot and cover, six tea bowls and six saucers, a cream jug and cover and a tea cannister and cover, painted en grisaille and in gold with two European figures, the younger figure scantily clad with a long sash holding a dog on a leash and beside a large vase decorated with a taotie head, the vase filled with a sprig of coral, sprays of lungi fungus, a ruyi and a peacock feather, symbolic of high rank and longevity, the standing figure wearing a robe and holding a sprig of coral, the teapot 13cm high (15) This rare scene is reminiscent of those found on contemporary Chinese enamelled metal wares showing similarly rendered Europeans carrying traditional Chinese tribute items, such as a branch of coral or ruyi branch or a peacock feather. Compare with a similar tea bowl and saucer sold Sotheby's, London, The Collection of Angelo Castelo Branco Cerqueira Caldas, 8th May, 1990, lot 154 清雍正至乾隆 外销西洋人物杯碟一组共15件 Condition Report: some wear but overall in very good condition Condition Report Disclaimer
