AN ECHIZEN SEKI WAKIZASHI EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1625), SIGNED ECHIZEN (NO) JU/HARIMA DAIJO FUJIWARA SHIGETAKA Configuration ( sugata ): with longitudinal ridge line ( shinogi-zukuri ), shallow peaked back ( iori-mune ) and medium point ( chu-kissaki ); length ( nagasa ): 1 shaku , 7 sun , 8 bu (54.6 cm.); curvature ( sori ): torii-zori of 1.6 cm.; decrease in width of blade ( fumbari ): 1.1 cm. Forging pattern ( jihada ): coarse wood grain ( itame ). Tempering pattern ( hamon ): large irregular invections ( o-gonome ) with clove patterns ( choji ) and extensive 'swept sands' ( sunagashi ) rippling through the areas of higher convexity. Point ( boshi ): brushed tip ( hakikake ). Tang ( nakago ). Shape ( keitai ): regular, ubu and with a dry, brown patina; file marks ( yasurime ): sloping ( sujikai ); end ( nakagojiri ): rounded ( kuri-jiri ); holes ( mekugi-ana ): one; signature ( katana-mei ): inside ( ura ): Echizen (no) ju ; outside ( omote ): Harima Daijo Fujiwara Shigetaka . Shirasaya . Silk storage bag. Accompanied by a futsu kicho token certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., no. 151649, dated Showa 43 (1968).
