AN EGYPTIAN PAINTED AND GILT CARTONNAGE ENSEMBLE FOR A WOMAN ROMAN PERIOD, CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D. Consisting of four elements, the mask with the face gilt, the eye outlines, cosmetic lines and brows blue, the headdress imitating braids, tied with a diadem fronted by six gold bosses and centered by a wadjet -eye, a kneeling figure of Isis painted on each side of the mask above the shoulders, checkerboard pattern over the front of the shoulders, the winged goddess Nut below, a band of uraei in red at the bottom of each lappet, the back of the mask with a djed column wearing an atef -crown, flanked by uraei ; the trapezoidal breast plate with a winged solar disk flanked by falcon heads surmounted by solar disks, followed by a row of decorative elements, likely imitating beads, a broad collar below, the lower edge centered by a figure of the winged goddess Nut; the leg covering with rows of decorative elements; the foot piece with the feet painted red with white toenails and white sandals, their soles depicted below 59½ in. (151.1 cm.) high as assembled
