AN ELIZABETHAN CARVED OAK PANEL 'THE PRODIGAL SON' LATE 16TH CENTURY Panel 57 by 64cm Later frame 88 by 95.5cm wide Provenance: Danny Robinson Antiques, 30th June 2010, £4,500 Condition Report: Panel 57 by 64cm Later frame 88 by 95.5cm wide Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. The frame itself, which if fairly modern, is sealed and the back of the panel has not been inspected. There look to be 2 horizontal old breaks straight across the panel. The upper one - approximately 12cm down is a clean straight line. There is a certain discontinuity of decoration across this line suggesting a fillet of carved section is missing. The second break runs across approx 15cm up looks to be an older break and with some signs of old loss- and remedial work including rebuilt small areas such as the left hand figure on horseback. There are signs of old worm holed- scattered but most notably to left hand edge/side. There is some loss to detailing and wear throughout but more noticeably to details, features and elements of right hand lower corner.
