An English electric observatory regulator William Hamilton Shortt, London, No. 20; circa 1930 The copper vacuum tank sealed with a glass plate as its base and a glass dome to its top above the brass suspension bracket with thermometer and mercurial barometer to the side, the pendulum suspended from the bracket with invar rod numbered No. 54743 above the weight tray, the tiny roller on a separate brass bracket fixed to the top of the pendulum rod giving maintaining impluse at half-minute intervals, the front of the canister fixed with two brass plaques engraved CLOCK "SHORTT" No. 20 DESIGNED by Wm. Hamilton Shortt M. Inst. C. E. in association with the synchronome Company Ltd. 32 & 34 Clerkenwell Rd. London. E. C. , the slave clock in a rectangular oak case with florally carved spandrels above a cream-painted Roman dial signed Synchronome with black painted hands, the synchronome movement of typical form with jewelled gathering pin affixed to the pendulum passing over a 15-toothed wheel with steel arm to its arbor giving make-break contact every 30 seconds.
