AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE LARGE IMPERIAL KESI PANEL OF SADAKSARI
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE LARGE IMPERIAL KESI PANEL OF SADAKSARI QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) The panel is elaborately worked to depict a central figure of Sadaksari seated in dhyanasana with four arms, the principal forward pair of hands joined in gesture of respectful salutation, anjalimudra , the other pair respectively holding a lotus flower spray and a string of mala beads. The head is adorned with a floral diadem fastened with ribbons floating to the sides and the body is adorned with a festoon of beaded jewellery chains over the bare torso and floral armlets, all before an elaborate mandorla. The figure is seated atop a platform base, supported by a large lotus flower growing from a leafy stem, and with several unopened buds. The upper section has two seal impressions of the Qianlong Emperor, stamped over the woven inscription. The lower section has three lines of inscriptions. The whole is mounted with yellow brocade as a hanging scroll. 28 1/3 x 72 7/8 in. (72 x 185 cm.)
