With massive rebrowned swamped twist octagonal barrel cut with sixteen shallow grooves and fitted with brass fore-sight and iron standing back-sight, the breech with gold line and second pattern gold-lined oval stamp 'Manton/London' within a pearled border, reading towards the butt (gold lining incomplete), touch-hole with large gold lining, case-hardened tang finely engraved with flowers, scrollwork, and a stag, signed case-hardened detented flat lock with moulded border, safety-catch, blued steel-spring, roller bearing on a ramp, and gold-lined semi-rainproof pan, the internal working parts with original blued finish, figured walnut half-stock flattened on the underside of the butt and with very low comb (minor bruising, repaired crack in fore-end), the grip with coarse chequering of early type, raised cheek-piece, finely engraved blued iron mounts decorated on the butt-plate with a stag pursued by a hound and on the scroll trigger-guard with a stag, each within a landscape, the trigger-guard with large pineapple finial, iron sling mounts, set trigger, silver escutcheon engraved with an 'H' and a marquess's coronet, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, horn fore-end cap, brass-mounted ramrod, and some original finish, the flat opposite the lock overlaid with a silver plaque engraved with presentation inscription 'A Gift from the Most Noble/The Marquess of Huntley (sic)/ To Captain David Rofs of Kendeace (sic)', together with the initials 'D.R.' and the crest and motto of Ross of Kindeace, London proof marks 33 in.
