An exhibition standard pair of 2 inch scale K5 Fowler Ploughing engines, built by the late Mr Jim Jackson of Market Rasen from the design by John Haining. The copper boilers with fittings including water sight glasses, steam pressure gauges, regulators, steam whistles, water pumps run from eccentric s mounted on the open crank, two speeds with bevel gearing, cylinders with W C Church & Co. Patent circular slide valves, cylinder drain cocks, Salter s type safety valves, ratchet oiler systems, cross-head guides, Stephenson s reverse gear, crank with brass oiler cups, spoked flywheels, chimney covers, direction quadrant with lever controls, steering wheels, geared ploughing drums to lower part of engines with associated fittings and wire ropes. The models finished in traditional black lined paintwork with polished bright-work and cast builder's plates to smoke box door. John Fowler & Co (Leeds) Ltd. Engineers. Leeds. The engines numbered Nos 13471 and 13472. on engraved oval brass plaques, polished brass boiler bands, tool boxes fitted to front axles, mud holes, spoked and straked wheels and fitted foot boards to boiler sides. The models are being sold together with a 2 inch scale 6 furrow balance plough built to a high standard, a 2 inch scale cultivator and water bowser finished in light blue paintwork. Ploughing engine measurements. Length 120cm. Width 44cm. Height 67cm. Plough length 65cm. Width 34cm. Cultivator length 103cm. Width 50cm. * John Fowler of Leeds developed these ploughing engines in the late nineteenth century and they were exhibited at the 1878 Royal Agricultural show. Bristol and Smithfield. The K5 was designed as a dual-purpose engine for ploughing and general farm work. A powerful machine and capable of driving implement from the flywheel or ploughing using the two-speed winch beneath the boiler. Boiler History: No boiler history available.
