AN EXTENSIVE VICTORIAN COMPOSITE SILVER, PARCEL-GILT AND SILVER-PLATED DINNER-SERVICE Sheffield and London, 1877-1880, mostly maker's mark of Harrison & Howson, the plated pieces mostly by Elkington The rectangular chest with two doors to the front, each door carved with trefoil and gothic motifs, the sides applied with two ormolu swing handles, containing five drawers comprising: FIRST DRAWER: - Eighteen silver table-knives, with ivory handles - Eighteen silver table-forks, with ivory handles - Eighteen parcel-gilt dessert-knives - Eighteen parcel-gilt dessert-forks - Eighteen parcel-gilt dessert-spoons - Eighteen parcel-gilt ice spoons - Eighteen parcel-gilt tea-spoons - Four parcel-gilt fruit-serving-spoons - A parcel-gilt sugar-sifter - A parcel-gilt sauce-ladle SECOND DRAWER: - Four parcel-gilt large serving-spoons - A parcel-gilt serving-knife - A parcel-gilt serving-fork - Two parcel-gilt serving-spoons - Two parcel-gilt sugar-tongs - Two grape scissors - Six parcel-gilt salt-cellars, decorated with signs of the Zodiac, with five glass liners - Twenty-four gilt-metal goblets, by Christofle, Paris, circa 1870 - Six salt spoons THIRD DRAWER: - A covered claret-jug - 35 cm. (6 in.) high FOURTH DRAWER: A gilt-metal table-garniture with glass liners, comprising: - A large centrepiece, formed as two seated fauns holding a fruit-stand above their heads, the oval shaped base with cornucopia, scrolls and with seated female with cherub - 92 cm. (36½ in.) long - Two smaller fruit-stands, similar, with two infant fauns holding the the fruitstands - 37 cm. (14½ in.) long - Four sweetmeat-dishes, each on circular base, the stem formed as a faun seated - 24 cm. (9½ in.) diam. - Four smaller sweetmeat-dishes, similar, - 16 cm.
