Beschreibung:

An extraordinary collection of approximately 20 photographs of the young Ernest Hemingway and family, 1899-1920, many inscribed on verso, generally very good condition, including: 1. Carte-de-visite, 58 x 96 mm, mounted on card of photographer "Arnold, Oak Park," of EH in an elaborate lace bodice, inscribed verso: "Ernest Miller Hemingway, Age 3 mo. Wt. 17 lbs. Oct 21, 1899. Oak Park, Ill." This is apparently one of the earliest recorded photographs of the future author. The Hemingway Collection of the John F Kennedy Library possesses another early image, possibly from the same studio session, of EH smiling and looking to the right of the camera, though the infant appears slightly older in that example. 2. An amusing silver print photograph, 110 x 90 mm, of EH and Marcelline laughing and wading at the edge of Walloon Lake during his first summer visit, inscribed verso: "Entitled-- 'Swimming like Papa.' Marcelline 2 yrs old & her brother Ernest Miller 11 months old, at Windermere, Walloon Lake, Mich., June 1900, the children of Dr. C. E. Hemingway, 439 N. Oak Park Ave., Oak Park, Ill." 3. A cyanotype, 80 x 140 mm, of EH in an oversize straw hat holding up four caught trout on a fishing line, inscribed verso: "Age 14, at Walloon." 4. A large silver print photograph, 176 x 222 mm, of EH in uniform riding in a motorcycle sidecar in Milan, circa 1918, inscribed verso: "Don St. John: given me by Marge. Given to her by H. & extracted from her album on my behalf. H. recuperated briefly before returning to America after hospitalization in Milano following his injuries at the Italian front." Other images include a group of family portraits of his marriage to Elizabeth Hadley Richardson in 1920, fishing images of EH in various locations and family portraits. See illustration.
