AN EXTREMELY RARE AND EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE DEHUA FIGURE OF GUANYIN WANLI PERIOD (1573-1619) The crisply modelled figure is shown standing on a base of swirling waves with her head turned to one side, offering a serene expression. The long, flowing robes are pulled tightly around the body and draped over her head in a cowl. Both hands are held in front of the body and hidden under voluminous robes, with pendent jewellery chains and bare feet exposed. A four-character Wenzheng qishi in seal script is impressed in relief on the back of the figure. A typical feature of pale yellow-tinged glaze has been applied to the figure overall. 29 1/8 in.
