AN IMPERIAL BEIJING ENAMEL OCTAGONAL BEAKER VASE, GU QIANLONG FOUR-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE SQUARE AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795) Of archaistic bronze shape, finely enamelled in a famille rose palette with composite floral sprays, the facetted central section with alternating flower sprays borne on curled tendrils between bands of cartouches each enclosing a chilong enamelled in blue on a light-blue ground, with lozenge-shaped panels each containing a wan symbol set at corners dividing the panels and the cartouches, the tall spreading neck set with vertical gilt-bronze flanges, decorated with upright overlapping plantain leaves below elaborate flowers borne on scrolling vines, the spreading foot similarly enamelled with further flowers, all reserved on a yellow-ground, the interior turquoise, the base white bearing the reign mark in blue enamel (enamel losses retouched) 11 1/2 in.
