AN IMPERIAL WHITE JADE OCTAGONAL BOWL QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) The shallow vessel magnificently carved in low relief around the eight facets encircling the exterior with shaped rectangular panels containing the Eight Buddhistic Emblems, bajixiang , comprising the endless knot, the conch shell, the lotus, the vase, the paired fish, the canopy, the wheel of law and the umbrella, each of the panels separated at the top and base by small ruyi heads, the bowl flanked on either side by elaborately detailed dragon heads suspending grooved loose ring handles flanked by stylized phoenix and ruyi scroll, all supported on four rectangular tab feet, the finely polished interior and base left plain 9 1/8 in. (23.2 cm.) wide
