An important and monumental Spanish gold and silver damascened forged iron vase By Plàcido Zuloaga, Eibar, Dated 1881 In the Nasrid style, the pierced rim above an octagonal tapering fluted neck applied with geometric foliate designs, above a bulbous stepped shoulder, the ovoid body bisected by a horizontal band with repetitive Granadan cursive inscription al-yaman wa al-iqabal ( Good fortune and prosperity ), the upper body decorated with cusp-shaped panels filled with arabesques and stylised foliage, applied with a pair of scrolled foliate handles with open-mouthed beast terminal to one end and stylised pine cone below, one handle inscribed to the inner edge PLÀCIDO/ZULOAGA , the other GUIPÙZCOA/EIBAR 1881 , the lower body with pomegranate-shaped reserves filled with anthemia and stylised foliage and surrounded by arabesques and flowerheads, the tapering stem enclosed within open horseshoe arches, above a foliate-decorated circular stepped bulbous foot and flat base 41¾ in. (106 cm.) high
