AN IMPORTANT IMPERIAL MING POLYCHROME LACQUER LEYS JAR, ZHADOU JIAJING INCISED AND GILT SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566) The globular body supported on a short splayed foot, well carved with a dragon in pursuit of a phoenix amidst cloud scrolls, above a band of crested waves breaking against jagged rocks, the phoenix with wings outstretched, its plumage in cinnabar-red, black and ochre, the dragon in matching colours, all reserved on a black wave-ground, the flared neck with a black dragon looking over its shoulders at a phoenix, interspersed with the characters, Shou and Fu , all on a ground of dense cloud scrolls, the interior and base lacquered in black, incised and gilt with the reign mark 6 3/8 in.
