An [?] Indo-Persian metal celestial globe, signed Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, with engraved date 1205h [1789, but later]. An unusual Islamic celestial globe, diameter 9 1/8 inches (240mm), overall height 17 inches (430mm), the white metal sphere elaborately engraved with ptolemaic constellations and figures, upwards of 1000 stars indicated by a point and circle, the ecliptic and celestial equator graduated in degrees, every sixth labelled in abjad letter numerals, the number sequence repeated every 30 degrees on the ecliptic and every 90 degrees along the equator, further engraved with the ecliptic, latitude and polar circles, zodiacal houses, equinoctial colure, solistal colure and the names of the constellations and some major stars. Mounted on a stand with domed base engraved with a horizontal circle and located by two pins to the half vertical circle.
