AN INTERESTING GROUP OF HISTORIC LETTERS CONCERNING J.J. RINGER, SPECIAL RANGER, FRONTIER BATTALION Group of two ALS, 1 printed document and 1 DS from the Adjutant General Office, Austin, Texas, March 1893. Comprising an ALS from W.H. Mabry, Adjutant General to J.J. Ringer on his acceptance as an officer of the law and his duties, priveleges, responsibilites, etc of the "Special" Ranger Force (meaning the Mr. Ringer will serve without pay). With: Descriptive list; physical description of Ringer, serving as a warrant of his authority as member of "D" Compnay Frontier Battalion; "Special Order No. 6" describing the application and function of the Special Rangers J.J. Ringer of Belton, Bell County, Texas. He was once arrested by the county sheriff for brandishing his sidearm in the course of duties as a Special Ranger. This unusual indignity was corrected in a letter, present in this lot, written by and signed by W. H. Mabry. "you should not experience any difficulty in showing that the sheriff was wrong, in arresting you for carrying a pistol" See Illistration on page 123.
