An Irish Silver and Rosewood Travelling Necessaire for the Duke of Leinster, with retailer's mark of Fox of Dublin, circa 1815 of bolster shape, the wood case banded in pierced silver, opening at top and base with central lock, the front engraved with crest, coronet and motto, the top with the coat-of-arms, the base containing a pair of nesting oval beakers, a nest of four oval numbered boxes; the top fitted with the following: a pair of tortoiseshell razors numbered 1 and 2, a shaving brush with screw-on handle and scoop finial, a strop, a pair of silver-mounted scissors, a pair of tweezers with stirrup-shaped scraper, a bodkin, a double-ended toothpick, an oblong mirror with folding handle, a button hook by Richard Whitford, Dublin, 1816, retailed by Matthew West, a button loop, a file, a double-bladed knife with folding nail file and blade, a compass, a folding ivory rule, corkscrew and steel sheath, a pencil holder, a pen case with ink compartment, a cylindrical container with screw-on base and perforated top and gold seal L below a coronet, another cylindrical container with domed cap, mostly engraved with crest, coronet and motto unmarked except as noted, the silver interior frame engraved Fox incuse height 8 3/8 in. 21.3cm
