AN MBE - QSA - TRIO DEFENCE MEDAL GROUP OF SIX. A Cased MBE ( MIlitary) (1919 No 12031). Complete with its original bestowal document addressed to Flight Lieutenant William J Dew MBE. Mayfield, 3 Abercorn Road, Mill Hill, London. It is dated for 23rd March 1921. In pencil is written Gazetted January 6th 1919, from the Central Chancery of the Order of Knighthood; Sir, I have the honour to transmit to you, under separate registered cover the insignia of a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, the receipt of which I would ask you to be so good as to acknowledge on the attached form. The Grant of Dignity is enclosed within. I have the honour to be, Sir Your obedient Servant (Registrar and Secretary) Also the original grant of Dignity (Military) dated 1/1/1919 to Captain William James Dew RAF. A Queens South Africa Medal with five bars, named to 5704 Corpl W J Dew Middlesex Regt. Bars Cape Colony - Transvaal - Orange Free State - S. Africa 1901 and S. Africa 1902. On one roll it states only four clasps issued. A commission document to W J Dew dated 9/10/1914 to be a 2/Lieutenant in, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regt) Land Forces. A 1914/15 Star named to 2.Lt.W.J. Dew. The Queens Regiment. He proceeded to France on the 7th April 1914. British War & Victory Medals named to 2./Lt W J Dew. Adjudant Queens Regt 25/3/1916. On his MIC details he is listed as RFC & RAF, receiving a Flying Commission on the 1st August 1917 with the Rank of T/Capt. His original RAF Commission Document dated 1st December 1918 in the rank of Captain. He was serving in the Administrative Branch. Also his original GV1 Commission Document dated 1/9/1939 with the RAFVR and the rank of Flight Lieutenant (10/11/1939) A Defence Medal, is with the group though Forces lists him as receiving the 1939/45 Star and War Medal. He is also listed as War Substantive T/Squadron Leader RAFVR 1/6/1940, receiving a Mention in Despatches 1/1/1941 in the London Gazette. Original envelopes and Middlesex Regt booklets are with the group, including 2nd Battalion Middlesex Regt and War Memorial 1922. See Illustration
