An outstanding large rhinoceros horn 'scholars' libation cup Qing dynasty, Kangxi period of typical elongated tapering form and oval section, deftly carved around the steep flaring sides with a continuous landscape scene depicting eighteen scholars variously engaged in leisurely pursuits and accompanied by their attendants, enjoying the music of a qin, sipping tea, composing poetry and engaging in lively discussion, alongside a rushing stream and amidst a vibrant landscape grown with bamboo, leafy paulownia trees and a large banana plant, with towering pine trees issuing from high rocks forming the handle continuing up and over the edge of the rim, the horn of superb golden russet hue transmuting to darker brown height: 5 5/8 in., 15 cm width: 6 7/8 in., 17.5 cm
