An unusual Charles II/James II unascribed provincial decorated trefid spoon, the flared terminal with rounded projections engraved on the front with an arrangment of stylised leaves or feathers?, pricked on the reverse "E.D E.V 1685", struck once in the bowl and four times on the back of the stem with a stylised crown mark within a shaped outline, possibly Wessex area circa 1685 - 19.25cm long, 1.5oz. Literature: Sotheby's Ellis catalogue 1935, lot 126 for a spoon with one identical mark to those on this spoon. This lot is also stamped with an anchor mark, the type now commonly associated with the Salisbury area. See Illustration
