An unusual early 20th century mahogany, cast iron and brass railway aprentice cut-away demonstration model of Walschaerts locomotive valve gear, the cylinder head engraved 'G.Cussons Limited, The Technical Works, Manchester' -- 48¼ (122.5cm) long. With cylinder and valve chest cut away to reveal the steam ports and ways, the cylinder and valve chest walls engraved '0-100-0' and '1-0-1' to enable accurate measurements of movement at various settings in relation to degrees of rotation of the driving crank which can be rotated by hand wheel and rope which is mounted in front of a plate engraved with the graduations from 0 -360 -0 '. Finished in lacquered brass, red, grey and varnish. See illustration
