An unusual French lacquered-brass and steel gunner's level Rochette Jnr, Paris. 19th Century Signed Rochette J n r au Griffon quai de l'horloge à Paris , the 20¾-inch (52.7cm.) long telescope with draw-tube focusing to the eyepiece mounted in two U-shaped supports alongside a steel arm with bubble level, tangent screw fine adjustment and clamp, with an unnumbered brass vernier at one end arranged to read off an ungraduated brass quadrant scale on the end of a second steel arm, a third steel arm also with bubble level, tangent screw fine adjustment and clamp and a brass vernier, the whole raised on a brass slab pillar with a tangent screw vertical adjustment, on a brass staff mounting, with a modern display base -- 14¼ in. (36.9 cm.) high; and A LACQUERED-BRASS SURVEYOR'S FRENCH CROSS , unsigned, 19th Century, the glazed compass with a 0-360° scale, sixteen compass points, edge-bar needle and clamp, the body with three pairs of sights and silvered scale and vernier, with micrometer fine adjustment screw beneath, on a simple staff mounting and display base -- 8 in.
