An unusual Victorian engraved gilt-brass striking and repeating strut clock Whistler, London. Circa 1860 The arched case engraved with leafy scrolls against a hatched ground, with suspension loop to the top, lifting repeat button to the shoulder, engraved strut to the base and spring-loaded easel support to the rear, the latter also with engraved door opening to reveal the escapement, signed on the inside WHISTLER Fecit LONDON , shaped mask to a silvered dial also engraved with foliate scrolls against a hatched ground, plain chapter ring with painted Gothic Roman chapters, with black painted spade hands, the twin barrel movement with large gilt brass platform to the plain steel balance with lever escapement, strike/repeat on gong via an axe-head hammer, the backplate numbered 2955 , with repeat number to the lower rear of the case; with original plush-lined brown leather travelling case 6½in. (16.5cm.) high to hilt of handle
