AN URBINO MAIOLICA DATED ISTORIATO DISH 1533, BY THE 'Lu Ur' PAINTER, PROBABLY LUSTRED AT GUBBIO IN THE WORKSHOP OF MAESTRO GIORGIO ANDREOLI Painted with the assassination of Oropastes, the King of Persia, in a draped and columned classical palace interior, enriched in lustre, the centre with Gobryas wrestling with the King, holding him firm, with soliders to the right, one lunging with a spear, the foreground with a guard fighting advancing soldiers, within a blue line and lustred band rim, the reverse with ruby lustre scrolls and gold lustre foliage, the centre inscribed ·1533· D'Horopaste di per sia Re. lamorte - Nel · I · libro d[i] iustino;histo i[n] Urbino L (chipping to rim, slight minor chip to footrim) 10½ in. (26.8 cm.) diam.
