ANDRADE DE FIGUEIREDO, Manuel de (c.1665-1735). Nova escola para aprender a ler, escrever, & contar . Lisbon: Bernardo d Costa de Carvalho, [1722]. 2° (298 x 205mm). Full-page engraved royal coat-of-arms above cityscape of Lisbon seen from the harbour and full-page author portrait dated 1721, both by Bernard Picart engraved calligraphic part title, and 44 engraved numbered plates, woodcut title ornament, head- and tailpieces. (Small wormholes or -track, repaired in some leaves, with slight loss in several plates, repaired tears in 4 plates, scattered small stains, notably on about 15 plates, one plate just shaved within platemark.) Modern speckled sheep, gilt spine, red lettering-piece, speckled edges. Provenance : Xavier da Costa (bookplate). Second issue title, agreeing with the Hofer copy, with '& Previlegio Real' added after the license statement. Bonacini 66; Becker, Practice of Letters 138; Berlin Kat. 5246
