Antique Samarkand Suzani Bokce, Samarkand region, Tadjikistan, early 19th C. The Suzani silk embroideries were originally part of dowry, with particular sizes woven for specific uses (bridal bedspreads, child's bedspread, etc). The square pieces (bokce) were probably woven as a wrap/cover for the family Koran. Fine silk embroidery dyed with natural dyes, showing spots of old staining but complete with original silk ikat bindings. 124 x 122 cms, 4'1'' x 4' Antique Samarkand Suzani Bokce, Samarkand region, Tadjikistan, early 19th C.
