3 parts in 1 vol. in-f° : engr. title-[8]-LI-[1], [12, portrait incl.]-XXVI-VII-[3]-432-[12], [8]-XIII-[1 bl.]-176 pp.; 18 pl. (some foxing, ink stains, marginal tears - most restored -, marginal wormholes in 2d half of the vol., a small marginal dampstain). Contemporary binding : calf, boards with fillets and one roll-stamp frame, ribbed spine (spine, joints and some parts of the boards renewed, scratches, some parts of the boards rubbed). Second edition of the reunion of the two works (1st ed. : 1675) : Cave's biography of martys and apostles being a continuation of Taylor's life of the Christ. Preceeded by an introduction about the three great dispensations of the church (patriarchal, mosaical and evangelical). Illustrated with an engraved title (ruled), the portrait of Taylor, 16 single plates, 2 double plates and 98 vignettes figuring Bible scenes and portraits. The two main parts have a separate title-page. The bishop of Down and Connor Taylor (1613-1667) is sometimes known at the "Shakespeare of Divines", and was vice-chancellor of the University of Dublin. The divine and patristic scholar Cave (1637-1713) was canon of Windsor. Provenance : C.B. Lockwood (handwritten mention); Peter Scupham (ex libris). ¶ Seconde édition de ces biographies de Jésus et des martyrs et apôtres. Illustré d'1 titre gravé, du portrait de Taylor, de 18 pl.
