Full contemporary vellum. Title page lightly spotted, approximately 100 blank sheets inserted at end for notes, very good. First edition. The first volume of a series of five published between 1689-1711, and Beughem’s major bibliographical undertaking. He is also known for his pioneering work on incunabula. “The first volume of the ‘Apparatus’ describes in 500 pages about 7,000 works, arranged in the alphabetical order of their authors, and the succeeding volumes are on a similar scale.” Besterman, Beginnings of Systematic Bibliography, p.36.
