mid-1930s, of 800 silver and bearing hallmarks for the firm of Bruckmann & Sohne, Heilbronn, Germany. Of cylindrical form resting on four ball feet with a lightly hammered finish, and decorated in relief with two eagles locked in combat. Legend around the base reads DEM SIEGER IM LUFTKAMPFE (the victor in the air fight). Circular stamp on bottom reads CHEF DES FELDFLUGWESENS (boss of the field aeronautics) around a crowned eagle; 8.75" high x 3.75" diameter at the top. Bruckmann & Sohne, Heilbronn, Germany, was founded in 1805. The firm trained its own designers, silversmiths, chasers and engravers. Peter Bruckmann was the first chairman of the Deutscher Werkbund and executed the silver designs of many leading German artists. Closed in 1973.
