For many years Scully's works have achieved some of the highest prices paid for a living artist and he is undoubtedly the most successful Irish born living artist. The Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin, opened an extension in 2006 with a room dedicated to Scully's works. His works are currently the subject of an exhibition Sean Scully at the National Gallery of Ireland which marks the artist's 70th birthday. This large, bold woodcut on Owakara paper by Sean Scully is only one of a very small edition of 30 and was printed by one of the best woodcut printers of his time, Chip Elwell and was completed before Elwell's untimely death in 1986. Elwell's distinctive ability to capture the stillness and elegance of Scully's paintings in woodcut makes this a fine example of the artist's large prints, which is also in the collection of the Smithsonian Museum of Art.
