The Cruise of the Marchesa to Kamschatka & New Guinea with notices of Formosa, Liu-Kiu, and...Islands of the Malay Archipelago, 2 vol., first edition, half-titles, hand-coloured lithographed frontispieces of birds by Keulemans, 14 maps and charts, some folding, wood-engraved plates and illustrations, some spotting, engraved bookplate of Sir Courtenay Vyvyan Bart. and with 2 A.Ls.s. from the author to Vyvyan loosely inserted or tipped in, hinges weak, original blue cloth, gilt, a little rubbed, 8vo, 1886. ⁂ An account of a scientific expedition through the Pacific, with good ornithological information. During the cruise Guillemard met Sir Courtenay Vyvyan who was stationed in the Far East and they corresponded for the next forty years. The first letter is from Aden in 1884 and discusses the voyage of the book, the second is a letter of condolence and reminiscence from 1928.
