Assembled Pair of American Gothic Revival Carved Oak Hall Chairs Circa 1850 Each arched crest with a foliate finial above an open back centering a quatrefoil motif, over a padded seat, raised on cabriole legs, one chair bears a presentation plaque engraved Made and Presented by F.W. Parrott 1850. Height 47 inches. One exhibited: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1976, The Gothic Revival Style in America, 1830-70 Literature: Katherine S. Howe and David B. Warren, The Gothic Revival Style in America, 1830-70 p. 26, no. 42 illus. C Sold to Benefit the Lee B. Anderson Memorial Foundation
One chair: wear and flaking to the finish, scuffs and small chips along edges and legs. Other chair (with plaque): back side has multiple small holes that have been filled in along stiles and seat rail. Front right leg with large age crack. Scuffs and loss along edges and legs.
