Assembled Set of Twelve Vienna Style Hand-Painted Cobalt-Ground Porcelain Cabinet Plates Diameter of largest 9 3/4 inches. C Property from a Private Collection, Boston, Massachusetts
each appears to be in generally good, undamaged condition, with the exception of two plates, one of which has a small rim chip (plate with Diana in yellow gown with two attendants and cupid bound to a tree, artist-signed J. Berger), the other plate is one of the plates with a scalloped rim, which has a shallow flake to the underside of its rim; otherwise, no apparent rim chips, hairline cracks, etc.; the plate centers appear to be scratch-free; one plate has a small rubbing loss to a paint surface, near the outer edge of the painted center, close to the gilt band, not of great consequence, consistent with age; another plate has a similar loss loss to its painted surface, not of great consequence, and there may be a few other plates with small areas of rubbing loss; three of the scenes , i.e., they are the same scene; only two plates appear to be artist-signed on the front side: one is signed C. Forster; the other is is signed J. Berger; two plates have scalloped rims (not plain like the others); there are variations to the gilt decoration around the borders; six of the plates have raised white enamel decoration on their borders; at least one plate has areas of loss to this raised white enamel decoration; the gilding appears to be generally intact; three plates have titles in German on the back side; one plate has the green stamped factory symbol for the maker Pirkenhammer; the other eleven plates have blue beehive marks and most plates are also marked in blue GERMANY; not blacklighted
