ATLAS] QUIN, EDWARD. An Historical Atlas; in a Series of Maps of the World as known at different periods; Constructed upon an uniform scale and colored according to the political changes of the period . London: R.B. Seeley and W. Burnside, 1830. First edition. Original three-quarters morocco over marbled boards, with printed paper label to upper cover. 16 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches (42 x 32 cm); Engraved title, 21 hand-colored engraved maps with aquatint (6 folding) under tissue guards accompanied by printed text, index. Hinges strengthened, early ownership signature to pastedown, small wormhole touching lower edge affecting first leaves and plates, some wear to edge of one map, folding maps strengthened on verso, the binding rubbed, shelfwear. A very good copy of an unusual atlas in which the world is revealed through black clouds according to historical events. The discovery of America is represented as is American Independence in 1783, and it is this map in which the clouds completely recede, although Goffart attributes this to the recent discoveries made by the voyages of Cook. The final map represents the "End of the General Peace" in 1828. See Goffart, William. Historical Atlases: The First Three Hundred Years, 1570-1870, p. 343. C
