Attributed Prince Paul Troubetskoy (Russian, 1866-1938): A bronzed plaster model of Princess Paul Troubetzkoy the figure in evening dress, her right hand resting on her shoulder, her cloak dramatically swept in front of her, on rectangular base inscribed P.Troubetskoy 1909, the model possibly a marquette for a bronze edition cast 1910, 57.7cm high Fußnoten Troubetzkoy grew up in Italy but moved to Russia in 1898, where he taught sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts until 1909. He completed an equestrian monument of Tsar Alexander III for Znamenskaya Sqaure, St. Petersburg (now in the State Russian Museum.) During this time he married Elin Sofie Sundström. Elin modelled for Troubetzkoy sporting a variety of guises, but in this instance, the work depicts Elin as herself, wearing an elegant evening dress, giving us a sense of their glamorous life as a young aristocratic couple. Prince Paul Troubetzkoy was self taught and sculpted portraits of some of the most significant political and cultural figures of the period. These included Henry de Rothschild, George Bernard Shaw, Tolstoy, Rodin, and Franklin D.Roosevelt.
