Attributed to Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein (1751-1829)Portrait of Ernst Friedrich Herbert Graf zu Münster (1766-1839)Pencil 45 x 34cm (17½ x 13¼ in.)Provenance: The Collection of Countess Veronica MunsterErnst Friedrich Herbert Graf zu Münster studied law at Göttingen University until 1788 with the three youngest sons of George III. From 1793 - 1798 he studied art history in Italy as the official companion of Prince Augustus Frederick Duke of Sussex, son of George III, who he subsequently accompanied back to England. He is known to have collected intaglios (such as lot XX) and the marble table top, (lot XX) is likely also a souvenir of these travels. He counted the artist Wilhelm Tischbein among his friends at this time.
