Attributed to John Flaxman Jupiter Delivers the Brethren of Saturn, from Hesiod's Theogony Inscribed as titled (uc) and 33 (ul) Black ink and pencil on paper 6 15/16 x 5 3/16 inches (17.6 x 13.1 cm) In 1816 John Flaxman contracted with the publisher Longman & Co. of London to provide drawings to illustrate the works of the Greek poet Hesiod, of which this is almost certainly the drawing for plate 33 of his Theogony. Flaxman's friend William Blake was commissioned to engrave the plates for the final publication, which was completed in 1817. In the book, plate 33 is captioned The Brethren of Saturn Delivered/The Brethren of His Father Too He Loosed. C Estate of William W. Appleton
