Attributed to John Glover [1767-1849] An extensive lake scene, mountains in the distance oil on canvas 36 x 41.5cm. John Glover a self-taught artist receiving some lessons from William Payne A drawing teacher at Lichfield, he began exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1795. A founder member of the Old Watercolour Society. Bought a house in Ullswater, circa 1818, where he intended to retire. He sold the house to buy a Claude Lorraine painting - an artist whose work much influenced Glover. His subjects were mostly landscapes of the Lake District, Wales and Dovedale. in 1831 he left for Launceston, Tasmania with his family, sending pictures of local scenery back to London for exhibition until his death in 1849.
