oil on canvas, a bozzettounframed: 29.4 x 35.7 cm.; 11½ x 14 in.framed: 42.8 x 50.5 cm.; 16¾ x 19¾ in.Condition reportThe canvas has a firm relining which has not overly flattened the paint surface. The paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear. The impasto brushwork in the figures is well preserved. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a campaign of retouching in the trees to the left, alongside the upper margin, and alongside the right margin next to the figure holding Moses. In overall good condition.

Chichester-Constable Esq. of Burton Constable Hall, which Alastair Laing attributed to Galeotti in 1994.1 He compared the latter with the large signed work by Galeotti of Rebecca at the Well in the Iliffe Collection at Basildon Park, Berkshire, and another canvas by the artist depicting Moses striking the rock, auctioned by Cambi, Genoa, 15 April 2014, lot 65.2 A version of the present composition, attributed to Andrea Casali (1705–1784), was sold Paris, Baron Ribeyre & Associés, 9 April 2010, lot 54.3
