AUSTRALIA in England 1878, commemorative silk handkerchief titled 'The Australian Cricket Team', lithographed central team portrait, corner bowling and batting stance portraits of Bannerman, Murdoch, Blackham and Spofforth, Australian coat-of-arms, 57.5 x 66.5 cm, (2 small holes, a few stains and minor tears) This was the first Australian team to tour England, following the Aboriginal tour of 1868. The tour commenced in 1877 and ended in January 1879. They played in Australia, New Zealand, England, the U.S.A., Canada and again in Eastern Australia on their return. Although no Test matches were played, they defeated the M.C.C. at Lord's, W.G.Grace out for 4 and a duck to the second ball he faced in each innings
