Australia tour to England 1934. A good selection of forty seven original mono and sepia press photographs with the odd restrike photograph from the 1934 Ashes Test series. Photographs include four from the first Test, Trent Bridge, 8th-12th June, featuring Alan Kippax, Tim Wall and Stan McCabe walking together on the outfield, two of Hammond missing chances at slip, one with Oldfield batting, the other Chipperfield, and Chipperfield holding a slip catch to dismiss Sutcliffe. Australia won by 238 runs. Three from the second Test at Lord's, 22nd-25th June, 'Verity's Test', including two copies of the official photograph of the Australian team, and Ken Farnes being bowled out for 1 by Wall in England's first innings. England won by an innings and 38 runs. Ten images from the drawn third Test at Old Trafford, 6th-10th July, featuring predominantly match action including Woodfull turning the ball to leg, Brown facing the bowling of Clark, Ames batting against Wall, O'Reilly bowling to Walters, a view of the play towards the pavilion, Darling taking a catch to dismiss Walters, Hendren and Leyland taking drinks with the Australian fielders (scorch mark to one edge of some images), Brown facing Verity etc., also Walters and Sutcliffe, and Chipperfield and O'Reilly going out to bat. Three photographs from the drawn fourth Test at Headingley, 20th-24th July, of Bradman in batting action on his way to scoring 304 in Australia's only innings, Bill Bowes bowling, and Bill O'Reilly fielding off his own bowling. Seven photographs from the deciding fifth Test at The Oval, 18th-22nd August, including Walters batting, Grimmett evading a ball from Bowes, wicket keeper, Frank Woolley, attempting the run out of Ebeling, Hammond being dismissed caught at slip by Oldfield, Chipperfield's middle stump knocked back by Bowes, McCabe celebrating taking the catch to dismiss Sutcliffe, and an excellent image of deliveries of liquid supplies being wheeled in to the ground. Australia won the 'timeless' Test by 562 runs to regain the Ashes. Sold with a selection of ten photographs of action from tour matches including v Worcestershire, v M.C.C. at Lord's etc. Players featured include Chipperfield, O'Reilly, Ponsford, Bradman, Marriott, Sutcliffe, Walters etc. Also ten photographs relating to visits, excursions, golf matches etc. including an official photograph of the Australian's visit to the English Steel Corporation at Sheffield, a visit to the Australia and New Zealand 1916-1918 war memorial at Port Said, visiting King George V and Queen Mary at Windsor Castle etc. Central Press Manchester, Sport & General, Associated Press, Nottingham Journal, The Times, Manchester Daily Mail etc. Various sizes, 12"x10" and smaller. Odd pin holes and other odd faults, overall in good condition
